Girls’ Night In – Have a “DAME GAME Night”

Remember all the fun you had playing games with your girlfriends as a kid and laughing your head off?  Why should that change now just because we’re older?  Playing a game is a great way to revolve girl talk, which is really what we get together for anyway, around an activity.  So the next time you have the girls over for a girls’ night in, have a “DAME GAME” night!

You’ll need all the usual fixings – good snacks and beverages of your choice, low music in the background and your most fun friends.  But game night is also a great way to bring new friends into the mix.  It’s a nice way to get to know a person in a short amount of time while in a fun atmosphere.

Below is a short list of games that I have played with my girlfriends.  I’ve only included the ones that do not require any knowledge of trivia, allow for lots of chat during the game, are easy to play, and are really funny.  After all, what good is a game if it doesn’t occasionally provide side-splitting laughter?

It’s hard to find a fun game just for women like there were and still are for young girls.  So my sister and I actually produced one:

  • What’s a DAME to do?!

“The Hilarious Guess what she would do?!” game just for women – You may have heard of it, but if you haven’t tried it it’s super easy in that it requires no special skill or creative talent, because the answers are literally in the cards. The only thing you need to play is your female intuition and humor!  The object is to guess what other players would do when presented with one of life’s little ‘dame dilemmas.’  When it’s your turn you read a Dame Dilemma card aloud and the other players must give you a Reaction Card that they have in their hand; this is where the laughter often begins as.  As you can imagine what is a viable reaction to one dilemma can be a silly and often downright hilarious reaction to another.  Bonus points are awarded for giving funny answers.

Other laugh-producing games to play for a Dame Game night that are not necessarily girly-centered, but work great to play with your girlfriends are:

  • Loaded Questions

“The Classic Game of Who Said What” – When it’s your turn, you read a question to all the other players and they write an answer.  The object is to guess which player wrote down which answer. The questions are simple but the answers can be hysterically funny.  I have only played the Original version and the Junior version, although there are many including an “Adult” version which is billed as having ‘suggestively-silly questions designed to make your cheeks as red as the box!’  Might be good for a racier crowd of gal pals!

  • Beyond Balderdash

“The Classic Bluffing Game” – In the original Balderdash players wrote definitions for unusual but real words.  In this edition, in addition to the category of words, they have added people, dates, initials, and movie plots.  When it’s your turn you read aloud one of the categories and secretly write the real answer that is provided on the card. The object for the other players is to write the best bluff answer, one that other players will think is the real answer.  Now comes the hard part, try not to laugh as you read all the often outrageous answers aloud!  Writing a short plot for a movie requires a little more creativity than the other categories but it is so worth it!  This to me is one of the funniest of all categories—don’t be afraid of it.

  • Catchphrase, electronic edition

“The Grab it, guess it, pass it game” – Get your teammates to say the word that comes up on the game, which is an electronic hot–potato-like gizmo, before the buzzer goes off.  Once they guess your word you quickly pass the game to the next team. Once they guess their word it’s back to your team, and so on until you hear the buzzer.  When that buzzer goes off, if you’re holding the game, the other team scores.  You will say some really stupid things because you have to be fast, making it really fun and memorable.  This is a game is fun with small groups but works especially well when you have a large group.

What’s a Dame To Do?! is my absolute favorite game to play, but you could add Taboo to the list too!
